Early neurocognitive rehabilitation in critically ill patients during ICU stay: a safety study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Critical illness result in significant long-term neurocognitive impairments that may persist for years after hospital discharge [1,2]. These sequelae impact negatively in relatives’ and patients’ quality of life [3]. However, neurocognitive rehabilitation rarely occurs after critical illness. The Early Neurocognitive Rehabilitation in Intensive Care-ENRIC protocol (ClinicalTrial: NCT02078206)has been develop to apply neurocognitive stimulation in patients during ICU stay. This intervention includes neurocognitive stimulation exercises that can be performed from the patient’s bed through Kinect technology and it is targeted to ameliorate neurocognitive outcomes at short-and long-term.

Feasibility and safety of virtual-reality-based early neurocognitive stimulation in critically ill patients
BACKGROUND Growing evidence suggests that critical illness often results in significant long-term neurocognitive impairments in one-third of survivors. Although these neurocognitive impairments are long-lasting and devastating for survivors, rehabilitation rarely occurs during or after critical illness. Our aim is to describe an early neurocognitive stimulation intervention based on virtual rea...
متن کاملFeasibility of a multiple-choice mini mental state examination for chronically critically ill patients.
OBJECTIVES Following treatment in an ICU, up to 70% of chronically critically ill patients present neurocognitive impairment that can have negative effects on their quality of life, daily activities, and return to work. The Mini Mental State Examination is a simple, widely used tool for neurocognitive assessment. Although of interest when evaluating ICU patients, the current version is restrict...
متن کاملEarly Mobilization and Rehabilitation in the ICU: Moving Back to the Future.
Despite the historical precedent of mobilizing critically ill patients, bed rest is common practice in ICUs worldwide, especially for mechanically ventilated patients. ICU-acquired weakness is an increasingly recognized problem, with sequelae that may last for months and years following ICU discharge. The combination of critical illness and bed rest results in substantial muscle wasting during ...
متن کاملEffect of Early Rehabilitation during Intensive Care Unit Stay on Functional Status: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
BACKGROUND AND AIM Critically ill survivors may have functional impairments even five years after hospital discharge. To date there are four systematic reviews suggesting a beneficial impact for mobilisation in mechanically ventilated and intensive care unit (ICU) patients, however there is limited information about the influence of timing, frequency and duration of sessions. Earlier mobilisati...
متن کاملThe relationship of serum vitamin D level with the outcome in surgical intensive care unit patients
The aim of this study was to assess the correlation of serum vitamin D with ICU length of stay, mortality rate, length of mechanical ventilation, and incidence of sepsis. We conducted a descriptive analytic study on 793 patients admitted to surgical ICU wards in northwest of Iran from March 2015 to March 2016. Patients were assessed during the ICU stay and the following data were collect...
